5 WAYS TO GO GREEN THIS SUMMER

5 WAYS TO GO GREEN THIS SUMMER

With summer just around the corner, rising temperatures will surely drive a surge in energy use, from A/Cs to water consumption. It’s important to help the environment in small ways where we can. This is why we’re sharing 5 helpful tips to go green this summer:

1. Conserve water

During the summer months, water usage tends to increase due to higher temperatures and outdoor activities. Consider taking shorter showers, turning off the faucet while brushing your teeth, and watering your lawn and garden early in the morning or in the evening to reduce evaporation.

2. Eco-friendly transport

While it’s easy to rely on cars for transportation, summer is a great time to opt for more eco-friendly options like riding your bike, skateboard, or rollerblades to nearby destinations. Get out and enjoy the sunshine!

Some cities, like Amsterdam, are famously known for biking and walking. Although city planning in America needs to improve for this lifestyle to be more prominent, it is a great, eco-friendly habit to practice when you can. Not to mention, it is a great exercise.

For farther destinations, opt for carpooling or using public transit.

3. Recycle and Reduce Waste

This summer, pack a reusable water bottle when you’re on the go. Use a cloth bag for groceries, and avoid disposable items such as plastic utensils and plates. When grilling, use washable and reusable plates, cups, and silverware.

There are many ways to reuse and recycle. Avoiding single-use plastic overall is a great practice, but if you do use plastic, recycling it is admirable.

4. Conserve energy use

Reduce your energy use by replacing your light bulbs with energy-efficient ones. Since it’s warmer outside, instead of using the dryer, you can hang a clothesline and air-dry your clothes. You can also unplug electronics when not in use, and remember to turn off lights when leaving a room.
Implement products such as the Top Greener motion sensor switch or air circulator timer switch so you won’t ever have to forget about turning off the lights or your appliances again. Instead, enjoy the ease of automation–it’ll help you be more eco-friendly and keep down your electric bill.

5. Enjoy nature

Spending time outdoors is a great way to conserve energy. Indoors, a ton of energy is consumed by devices like the TV, game consoles, lights, and so on. By exploring the beauty of the natural world, you can put down your devices and connect with the earth. Go the extra mile by volunteering at a conservation park or landmark near you, or simply support it by visiting.

These practical and easy tips and tricks will surely help you enjoy the summer while also being environmentally conscious. Join us on the journey to create a more sustainable future, one small, conscious practice at a time.
